Tetbury in Bloom

Tetbury in Bloom run the local
Gardening Competition.
Judging is in July each year, with an awards ceremony held in September just after the results of external judging are announced.

 

The usual judging dates for the competition are in the first or second weekend in July.

 

For 2011, the dates were:

Saturday 9th July
Commercial entries & allotments
(excluding shop window displays)

Sunday 10th July
Private gardens and containers

Monday 8th August (from 3pm)
Shop window displays
(Theme “Our Town”)

The competition is open to all Tetbury residents and businesses, including those in Tetbury Upton and
entry is free.

 

CATEGORIES

A) Commercial planting, including residential homes/complex—containers of any kind (hanging baskets, troughs, tubs, mangers etc)

B) Commercial garden, including residential homes/complex

C) Shop window display

D) Newly created private garden (up to 3 years old)

E) Private rear garden (over 3 years old)

F) Private front garden (over 3 years old)

G) Private planting—containers of any kind (hanging baskets, troughs, tubs etc)

H) Allotments

I) Wildlife friendly garden

 

There is no entry fee and you can enter as many categories as you wish. Entry forms are made available via this webpage, in the June issue of the Tetbury Advertiser and from the Town Council Offices.

 

JUDGING CRITERIA

The judges will be looking to mark the following criteria, each being out of 10 points:

Gardens:

Colour, variation of plants, design, weed control, plant maintenance, general tidiness, visual impact, ground maintenance, green issues, imagination.

Containers:

Colour, variation of plants, design, weed control, plant maintenance, visual impact,

Allotments:

Use of space, variation of crops, , weed control, compost facilities, general tidiness, companion planting, watering saving facilities, quality of crops.

Wildlife:

variation of plants, housing facilities for wildlife, eco friendliness, facilities to encourage, feeding facilities,

Shop Window Display:

Colour, design, plant maintenance, visual impact, imagination.

 

AWARDS & PRIZE-GIVING

Depending on the score, each entry is awarded either a Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt or Gold award and each category will have a ‘Category Winner’.

Category Winners receive a plaque for display in their garden, kindly donated by Artique.
